Grandma wanted to remember her visit to Michigan when she came to help with the birth of the 2nd. At the time it was the beginning on winter and snow was falling. We also often had a visiting squirrel who would perch on our fence. This painting is an homage to that visit. I think it’s my favorite watercolor to date.
So…I got my first assignment to do some caricatures. It’s not what I do, but it’s Christmas and I can use the extra funds. I had to do some research so I visited a few sites and came across the inspiring work of Tom Richmond.
After a few initial drawings, I soon realized that this is a skill that needs understanding and development just like any other form. The more I worked at trying to achieve that caricature feel, the better I got at it.
Photography is so easy and provides immediate satisfaction. At least that’s how I feel about it. I take my DSLR and shoot a bunch of shots. Sort through them….clean them up…and go to work on Photoshop to add some additional interest and there we go.
It’s not really a simple as I made it just sound. There is prep work and strategy involved…so don’t get it twisted. Just know that my thoughts are in comparison to painting and drawing which for me takes time to develop.
Anyway…Justin is my brother (in-law). He visited with us this year and we went out and had a good time taking some photos.
