Digital Paintings

Here I go again…trying new stuff. I’ve recently gotten myself mixed up in digital painting. I purchased a Wacom tablet and I’m starting to think this might be the world for me. Here is a painting I did of my son using only photoshop. This is the 3rd DP I’ve completed. It’s a medium that is wonderful to use because the clean up is non-existent.

I still have a lot to learn in terms of how to properly apply coloring etc. I’ll keep you posted.

Photography & Lighting

I have been working toward improving my photography. I recently purchased a brolly (an umbrelly that works similar to a softbox) and set up a mini in home studio.

These shots are combinations of lighting and photoshop editing. I am really happy with photography. I hope to improve controling my environment. My goal isn’t simply to take a good picture, but also create an art piece that I envision.

Alex – Sr Pics

We had a great time doing these Sr. Pics. Taken in downtown Fort Worth, we traversed the landscape and had an amazing photoshoot.

I didn’t realize how popular it was to have caricature art done. I suppose that’s why you see these guys in malls and at theme parks doing airbrush art all over the place. It really is an industry that has a decent demand base.

After the last caricature style drawing I did I was hired to do 2 more other pieces from different sources.

On the first piece I had an assignment to incorporate places that they’ve vacationed to together. Particularly 3 places: Rome, Disneyland, and Colorado (ski trip).

The second piece was for a corporate project where they were celebrating the president being with the company for 5 years. I was doing a take on the classic Magnificent 7. I found a movie poster and went to work from there.

I don’t think my caricatures are very cartoonish as they could be. Where I think I am strong is that I am incorporating some background into the story of the pictures.

So…I got my first assignment to do some caricatures. It’s not what I do, but it’s Christmas and I can use the extra funds. I had to do some research so I visited a few sites and came across the inspiring work of Tom Richmond.

After a few initial drawings, I soon realized that this is a skill that needs understanding and development just like any other form. The more I worked at trying to achieve that caricature feel, the better I got at it.
